Koh Samui Restaurants

The one thing you will not be short of if you book a vacation in Koh Samui is places to eat, the local Koh Samui Restaurants are of a standard that is hard to beat anywhere in the world, whether you are going out to a classy beach or sea front restaurant or eating at one of the many local run traditional Thai noodle shacks, the variety and quality of the food on offer is simply stunning.

With prices starting at a less than 100baht for a clear Chicken noodle soup (in a local Thai noodle shack), you will find the prices of food in the restaurants of Koh Samui to be very reasonable.

As with all Islands, fish is very much a staple food on the Koh Samui restaurants menus, many of which set out their daily catches on ice in front of the restaurant for you to choose your own delicacy. Lobster, Oysters and many other exotic seafood specialities are very much in evidence and remarkably cheap compared to European, Australian and American prices.

Thai food is often spicy, however, in many restaurants in Koh Samui they serve your food accompanied by a variety of condiments which you add to the food to your taste, these condiments include chopped chillies in a sweet sauce that will make your eyes water if you add too much.

One of our favourite eating places in Koh Samui is the simple ‘backpackers’ restaurant Kosain, this is situated on the High St in Chaweng and serves stunning food whilst they play the latest releases on DVD through the many TV’s on view.

Typically, a 2 course meal for 2 including drinks would cost around 500 - 600 baht and the quality of the food in this Koh Samui restaurant was second to none. One of the most interesting facts we noted when we ate here was the number of Thai’s and in particular the number of Ex Pats who live in Koh Samui who ate there, many coming back night after night to enjoy the Sea food platter or the Chicken Noodle Soup.

Koh Samui, as well as having a great selection of less expensive restaurants has a wealth of up market restaurants where you can indulge yourself to your hearts content, there are many FREE newspapers and magazines that feature these award winning Koh Samui Restaurants and choosing which one you are going to eat at that night can take you a whole day sat on your sun-lounger.

As well as the variety of restaurants, one charming feature of Thailand and Koh Samui is the number of street sellers who prepare and cook the food on the back of either mopeds or bicycles. They cook anything from deep fried locusts to pancakes from the back of their mobile catering units and yet again, the quality of the food is excellent – why not give them a try?
